Janelle Monáe, jeden z najcudowniejszych głosów młodego pokolenia, powraca z drugim autorskim krążkiem. "The Electric Lady" to dalszy ciąg fascynującej afrofuturystycznej opowieści. Historia, którą Janelle zatytułowała "Metropolis", składać się ma w sumie z siedmiu części. "The Electric Lady" jest czwartą w kolejności. Która podobnie jak wcześniejsze została przekazana na podkładzie neo soulu, R&B, hip-hopu, elektronicznego popu z nutką psychodelik, rocka, funku. Aczkolwiek nigdy tak efektownie, jak w tym przypadku. Monáe jak zwykle zaprosiła wybitnych artystów do partycypowania w opowiadaniu historii. Tym razem są to takie tuzy jak legendarny Prince, zachwycająca Erykah Badu, trzykrotna laureatka Grammy, znakomita kontrabasistka jazzowa Esperanza Spalding, czy Solange Knowles (młodsza siostra Beyoncé). W gościach jest też rówieśnik Janelle Monáe, pochodzący z Kalifornii Miguel, którego wokal słychać w singlowej piosence "Primetime". To trzecia kompozycja, którą wybrano do promowania "The Electric Lady". Wcześniej pojawiły się "Q.U.E.E.N. (feat. Erykah Badu)" oraz skoczna, żywiołowa, lekko trącąca rockabilly "Dance Apocalyptic". Obydwie kompozycje zilustrowano kapitalnymi wideoklipami, które cieszyły się oglądalnością świetną (pierwsza z piosenek, ponad 6 mln odtworzeń na oficjalnym profilu Janelle na You Tubie) lub niezłą (druga, ponad 700 tys. odtworzeń). Janelle Monáe w kolejnej części historii opowiada między innymi o wspaniałych kobietach z amerykańskiej historii, jak piosenkarka Dorothy Dandridge i astronautka Sally Ride. Najwięcej jest jednak o alter ego artystki, czyli o będącej androidem Cindi Mayweather. W produkcję tych znakomitych parunastu kompozycji oprócz samej Janelle zaangażowana była także wielka gwiazda hip-hopu, były facet Jennifer Lopez Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs oraz Big Boi z Outkast. Powstała produkcja, w której miesza się tak wiele różnych dźwięków, tworzących jednak wprost niesamowitą, niezwykle barwną całość. Nie ma wątpliwości, Janelle Monáe to elektryzująca kobieta. Jej muzyka także taka jest.
