Esben And The Witch, którzy swą nazwę zaczerpnęli od tytułu duńskiej bajki, bardzo podobnej do "Jasia i Małgosi" braci Grimm, brawurowo czerpią inspirację z wcale jeszcze nie tak do końca skompromitowanego gotyckiego rocka, z albumów Siouxsie And The Banshees i The Cure z okresu "Pornography". Jednak ich muzyka to nie zwykła w dzisiejszych czasach nostalgia i imitacja, lecz propozycja ogromnie oryginalna, którą można śmiało postawić obok pierwszej, wysoko ocenionej i doskonale przyjętej pierwszej płyty The XX. Zresztą w obu przypadkach producentem jest wschodząca gwiazda w swym fachu, Rodaindh McDonald. Mroczne, klimatyczne, przesycone gitarowym i elektronicznym brzmieniem utwory w rodzaju "Marching Song", "Chorea" czy "Warpaith", które chwilami przywołują na myśl także Scotta Walkera, dosłownie porażają intensywnością wpisanych w nie nastrojów i emocji.
