Stephen Hough presents an enchanting programme of French music, played with the filigree perfection and total command of the music’s expressive world that make him one of the most admired pianists of today. In typical Houghian style this recital is full of surprises and lesser-known gems from the repertoire, as well as works by the masters Fauré, Ravel, Debussy and Poulenc. A particular delight is Hough’s own arrangement of the Massenet song Crépuscule, a ravishing exercise in creative yet faithful transcription. This release is both a tribute to the lyric genius which flowered in nineteenth- and twentieth-century France, and a glimpse into the musical mind of a great pianist.

Thomas Linley was born in Bath into a highly musical family. Had he not died tragically young in a boating accident it seems likely that he would have won for himself a far greater name. He travelled widely, was a friend of Mozart (who commented that 'had he lived, he would have been one of the greatest ornaments of the musical world'), and was widely mourned. The Song of Moses was one of his last works. A grand oratorio in Handelian style, it contains a varied range of arias alongside choruses which are at once expertly written and intensely dramatic (something here developed to the full by the Holst Singers). The story is taken from Exodus (Chapter 15) and concentrates on the Israelites' rejoicing after the Red Sea was closed over the pursuing Egyptian forces—much the same as Handel's Israel in Egypt. This recording is the work's first performance since 1778. Let God arise is an earlier work, one of his first surviving compositions of any size, and is a large-scale anthem after the style of Handel or Boyce. Współtworzył Maanam, zanim zespół zyskał sławę. Grał nową falę, zanim do Polski dotarła moda na taką muzykę. Występował z koncertami akustycznymi na długo przed wylansowaną przez MTV modą unplugged. Ma biografię typową dla całego pokolenia Brytyjczyków, którzy po zakończeniu hippisowskiej rewolty rozjechali się po świecie. Mógł zostać w Berlinie Zachodnim, w którym pracował. Mógł wyjechać do Australii, gdzie osiadł jego brat. Ale w 1976 roku wybrał Polskę. I jak mówi :"To była sprawa mojej karmy. Gdy przyjechałem tu pierwszy raz, poczułem się jak u siebie. Zupełnie, jakbym kiedyś był tu już wcześniej". "Right Time" została wydana w 1991 roku i płytą tą John Porter powrócił do elektrycznych brzmień. Sformował nowy skład i jako zespół Mirror wydał krążek "Right Time”. Porter pomieszkiwał wtedy w Londynie, a płyta powstała częściowo tam, częściowo w Warszawie na magnetofonie czterośladowym. Jej producentem był Neil Black. Płyta teraz powraca w odnowionej, zremasterowanej wersji.
