Pochodzący z Austrii wybitny klasyczny kompozytor Franz Joseph Haydn, urodzony w 1732 roku w Rohrau, zmarł w 1809 roku w Wiedniu. Artystka komponował poważną muzykę klasyczną, jest zaliczany do tzw. Klasyków wiedeńskich, wraz z Wolfgangiem Amadeuszem Mozartem i Ludwigiem Van Beethovenem i jest z nich najstarszy. Jest prekursorem muzyki swojej epoki i wytaczał jej główne nurty. Pochodzący z Niemiec wybitny kompozytor Robert Schumann, urodzony w 1810 roku w Zwickau, zmarł w 1856 w Enenich, tworzył w epoce romantyzmu i należał do najwybitniejszych prekursorów owej ery. Lata 1832-39 były dla artysty „Rokiem pieśni”, gdzie kompozytor tworzył głównie utwory na fortepian solo i pieśni. Kompozycje orkiestrowe i kameralne przypadają na rok 1841, stworzył on wtedy wiele różnorakich kompozycje: uwertury, koncerty i sonaty. Album został wydany przez wytwórnię Alto (ALC 1136). Pochodzący z Francji wybitny kompozytor Achille-Claude Debussy, urodzony w 1862 roku w Saint-Germain-en-Laye, zmarł w 1918 roku w Paryżu. Artysta był czołowym przedstawicielem impresjonizmu muzycznego. Jego muzyka była wyjątkowa i rozpoznawalna, chociażby dlatego że było słychać w niej wpływy orientalnych kultur, przepełnionych żywą kolorystyką, posiadała ona gęstą fakturę, oraz posiadała niekonwencjonalne skale muzyczne. Zaczął pracę w najlepszych intencjach, ale na półmetku, z powodu choroby, musiał skorzystać z pomocy starego przyjaciela, Giovanni Tadolini. Nagranie Chandosa przedstawia wersję skomponowaną tylko przez Rossiniego, w wykonaniu London Symphony Chorus i czterech znakomitych solistów: Helen Field, Delli Jones, Arthura Daviesa i Rodericka Earle’a.
