Zacznę nieco górnolotnie, ale naprawdę tak uważam. Polska piosenka to polska kultura. Wiem, że niektórzy nie zgodzą się ze mną. Powiedzą: piosenka to twór ulotny, szybko przemija, nie może równać się z teatrem, literaturą, filmem. A jednak… kiedy staje się przebojem, jej audytorium może być ogromne, o wiele większe niż wielkich literackich bestsellerów, sztuk teatralnych czy dzieł filmowych. Piosenka ma w sobie wielką moc. Czasami nawet nie musi mieć fantastycznego tekstu i super melodii, wystarczy, że jest zapisem chwili, wiarygodnym dokumentem epoki, w której powstała. Choć oczywiście najlepiej, żeby była jednocześnie i dokumentem i dziełem artystycznym. To się zdarza i wcale nie tak rzadko. W naszym cyklu mamy wiele takich piosenek. Formacja Nieżywych Schabuff najpierw intrygowała swoją nazwą. Kiedy posłuchało się ich pierwszej płyty, zatytułowanej "Wiązanka melodii młodzieżowych", wszystko stawało się jasne. Stawiali na surrealizm. Mój ówczesny radiowy szef twierdził, że takie piosenki: ni to pop, ni to kabaret, ni to rock, nie mają żadnych szans. Jednak młoda publiczność uważała, że wręcz przeciwnie. Ten krążek był spektakularnym fonograficznym debiutem zespołu. Kolejki ustawiały się po "Schaby". Rok wcześniej ( 1988 ) grupa zwyciężyła w ankiecie magazynu Jazz Forum w kategorii: Nadzieja rocka. Następnym wielkim hitem FNS było "Lato", przebój roku 1996. Świetna piosenka, twierdzę tak nie tylko dlatego, że w teledysku do niej rolę harcerki zagrała moja wówczas dziesięcioletnia córka Małgosia. Telewizyjna Dwójka pokazywała ten clip bardzo często. Olek Klepacz dostał nawet, jak sam mówi, szansę stania się nowym Vivaldim. Zaproponowano mu mianowicie, by napisał piosenki poświęcone pozostałym porom roku. Odmówił, choć honorarium nie było małe. "Pieniądze nie są dla mnie najważniejsze. Jestem neurotycznym romantykiem" – powiedział. Dzięki piosence "Lato" Schaby zagrały przed pamiętnym występem Michaela Jacksona na warszawskim Bemowie.
