Florencja w połowie XIV wieku stanowiła centrum humanizmu, była w pełni rozkwitu kulturalnego. Tacy kompozytorzy jak Francesco degli Organi (Landini) i Paolo Da Firenze byli najwybitniejszymi twórcami tego okresu. Nowa płyta zespołu Sollazzo przybliża nam ten ciekawy okres muzyki europejskiej.
Fans of Angela Hewitt will be delighted to find her in chamber mode, accompanying Andrea Oliva (described as ‘one of the best flutists of his generation, a shining star in the world of the flute’ by Sir James Galway) in a programme of J S Bach’s flute sonatas (including one by his most famous and talented son, C P E). Of unfailingly remarkable quality, all these works exploit the full potential of an instrument which was only just coming into its own when they were written. Oliva’s lyricism and agility coupled with Hewitt’s musicianship-not to mention her lifelong rapport with Bach’s music-make this an album to treasure.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s motets number among his most sophisticated works. In order to do justice to the challenging, virtuoso style of the motets, Trinity Baroque, under the direction of Julian Podger, performs them with just one voice on a part. This accentuates the filigree, transparent, and yet powerful polyphonic structure of the motets. Trinity Baroque traveled to Saxony to record Bach’s motets – in the Wenzelskirche, Naumburg, where in 1746 Bach inaugurated and later oversaw the maintenance of the Hildebrandt organ. The historic venue inspired a further idea: besides the soloistic interpretation of the voice parts, the bass line is tonally emphasized by this “Bach” organ (and a violone) – the clearly perceptible sound of the organ blends harmoniously into the tonal fabric of the voice parts, lending this recording a unique character.
