Na długo przed pojawieniem gatunku kantaty, komponowano mniejsze utwory – arie, sakralną muzykę wokalną, hymny pogrzebowe, motety czy pieśni kościelne, które wykonywane były w domach. Właśnie tego typu kompozycje tworzyli liczni członkowie rodziny Bachów.Co ciekawe, było co najmniej 6 członków tej wybitnej rodziny noszących imię JAN, na czele oczywiście z tym najsłynniejszym – Janem Sebastianem. Na płycie znajdziemy twórczość trzech z nich: Johanna Christopha, urodzonego w 1642 roku – pierwszego kuzyna ojca Jana Sebastiana, organisty, pracującego w Arnstadt oraz Eisenach. Pisał muzykę instrumentalną, motety, muzykę religijną (w tym lamenty) i elegie. Kolejny z Janów – Johann Michael był młodszym bratem Johanna Christopha, a zatem także kuzynem ojca Jana Sebastiana. Pracował w Gehren i zmarł w wieku 64 lat. Pozostawił trochę muzyki wokalnej (błędnie określanej mianem kantat). Spośród utworów, zawartych na tym krążku znajdziemy wczesną kantatę Jana Sebastiana: Widerstehe doch der Sünde, o bardzo prostej budowie: aria/recytatyw/aria.Interpretacji muzycznych dokonań kompozytorów z rodziny Bach podjął się zespół Il Seminario Musicale pod dyrekcją swojego założyciela, francuskiego kontratenora – Gérarda Lesne.Johann Michael Bach 1648-16941.
