8-płytowy album zawiera nagrania sonat i wariacji fortepianowych W. A. Mozarta w wykonaniu Daniela Barenboima.Daniel Barenboim urodził się w Buenos Aires w 1942 r. Pierwsze lekcje fortepianu odebrał od swojej matki mając zaledwie pięć lat. Potem uczył się u swojego ojca, który pozostał jego jedynym nauczycielem już do końca. Mając siedem lat przeniósł się wraz z rodzicami do Izraela, wówczas też dał pierwszy koncert publiczny. W wieku 10 lat rozpoczął profesjonalną karierę, koncertując solo w Wiedniu i Rzymie, a następnie w Paryżu, Londynie i Nowym Jorku. W tym czasie nagrał także pierwszą płytę, jako pianista. W 1966 roku podpisał kontrakt z EMI i na przestrzeni kilku lat nagrał Sonaty Beethovena oraz jego koncerty fortepianowe (z Otto Klempererem), koncerty fortepianowe Brahmsa (z Sir Johnem Barbirolli) oraz wszystkie koncerty fortepianowe Mozarta (z English Chamber Orchestra dyrygując od fortepianu). Od kiedy zadebiutował jako dyrygent w 1967 roku w Londynie z the New Philharmonia Orchestra Daniel Barenboim stał się jednym z najbardziej cenionych dyrygentów. W operze zadebiutował w 1973 roku z Don Giovannim Mozarta a w 1981 roku po raz pierwszy dyrygował w Bayreuth, gdzie występował następnie każdego lata, aż do 1999 roku. Jego kariera rozwijała się nieprzerwanie i dziś Barenboim jest jednym z największych i najbardziej cenionych muzyków świata.

Pochodzący z Rosji kompozytor Modest Pietrowicz Musorgski urodzony w 1839 roku w Karewie, zmarł 1881 w Sankt Petersburgu.
