Following hard on the heels of her critically acclaimed Bach Sonatas and Partitas (ONYX4040), this new CD of Beethoven’s 3rd and 9th violin sonatas sees Viktoria Mullova partner with fortepianist Kristian Bezuidenhout in performances that are both searching and exciting. This recording marks the 50th release from ONYX, and the 5th anniversary of the label.Mullova’s plays on her 1750 Guadagnini with gut strings, and with a baroque bow by Walter Barbiero. Maurice André nazywany przez krytykę „królem trąbki”, to niekwestionowana gwiazda. Zasłużył sobie na to miano dzięki swojej wszechstronności, różnorodnemu repertuarowi, olśniewającej technice i cudownej barwie dźwięku. To dzięki niemu trąbka została uznana w świecie współczesnej klasyki za ważny instrument koncertowy. André wykonywał bardzo szeroki repertuar. Bliska mu była muzyka dawna, nie stronił także od twórczości pochodzącej z pozostałych okresów, ani różnorodnych transkrypcji (z muzyki wokalnej, fletowej, smyczkowej itp.), a jego fantastyczna technika pozwalała mu grać na trąbce w sposób, który wcześniej był nie do wyobrażenia. Otworzył wiele artystycznych drzwi i wytyczył ścieżki rozwoju współczesnych wykonawców. Wielu z wybitnych solistów także sam wykształcił, wykładając przez lata w konserwatorium paryskim.Album prezentuje dzieła, w których talent André znajduje pełnię wyrazu. Znajdziemy tam utwory wielkich mistrzów, tworzących w różnorodnych okresach w historii muzyki, a zatem Albinoniego, Bacha, Haydna, Marcellego, Mozarta, Purcella, Telemanna i in.
