Przepiękny album zawierający monumentalne dzieła Saint-Saënsa w wykonaniu najjaśniejszych gwiazd światowej sceny muzycznej. Pianiści… prawdopodobnie najbardziej egzotyczne stworzenia wśród wszystkich pojawiających się w Karnawale Zwierząt! Album z kolekcji Warner Classics prezentuje dowcipną suitę Saint-Saënsa w wykonaniu rzadko spotykanego duetu: Martha Argerich (często opisywana jako najwspanialszy "okaz" gatunku pianistów) oraz Antonio Pappano (wyjątkowy "osobnik" sam w sobie – dyrygent i pianista zarazem). Mimo wszystkich umuzycznionych cudów natury - jak pełen wdzięku łabędź, potężny lew, tańczący słoń, lśniący mieszkańcy akwarium - to właśnie Pianiści są tutaj prawdziwą atrakcją Karnawału Zwierząt, wnosząc swój czar i wirtuozerię do prawie wszystkich 14 miniatur. Argerich i Pappano spotkali się na nagraniach w Włoszech. Jednak nie w Wenecji – mieście karnawału – lecz w Rzymie, gdzie Pappano od 2005 r. jest Dyrektorem Muzycznym Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Dziewięciu muzyków z tego zespołu towarzyszy sławnym solistom – pianistom w suicie Saint-Saensa. W 2012 r. Gdy Argerich wykonała Koncert fortepianowy Schumanna z Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Pappano powiedział Euronews, że był: "powalony jej energią, ale jednocześnie niezwykłą naturalnością, tak jak gdyby muzyka nigdy nie mogła brzmieć inaczej". Córka Argerich, Annie Dutoit, również miała swój udział w nagraniu Karnawału, recytując wersy napisane do tego utworu przez francuskiego aktora, piosenkarza i humorystę Francisa Blanche’a (1921-1974). Obok Karnawału zwierząt w albumie znajdziemy również inne cenione dzieło Sainte-Saensa – wspaniałą Symfonię "Organową" Nr 3. Wiodącą partię organów wykonuje tu Daniele Rossi, który wystąpił również w nagraniu Pappano i Santa Cecillia Petite Messe Solennelle Rossiniego, które ukazało się w 2013 r. Oba dzieła (Karnawał i Symfonia), choć powstały w tym samym roku – 1886 – to są całkiem różne estetycznie. Wiosną 2016 r. Symfonia Nr 3 została wykonana podczas europejskiego tournée, które Pappano odbywał z orkiestrą dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. W Niemczech The Hamburger Abendblatt poinformował, że publiczność na Symfonię zareagowała euforycznie "tupiąc i domagając się drugiego bisu". Choć Saint-Saëns żył jeszcze 35 lat po napisaniu swego dzieła, to Symfonia Nr 3 była ostatnią, którą skomponował. Kiedy zapytano go dlaczego, odpowiedział: "Tym utworem dałem wszystko, co mogłem dać. Nie mogłem dokonać jeszcze raz tego, co już zrobiłem."
