Dość frapujący tytuł płyty - złożenie dwóch nazwisk: Bach i Hasse. Oczywiście rzecz dotyczy Johanna Sebastiana Bacha i Johanna Adolpha Hassego. Obaj w dużym stopniu związani byli z królewskim dworem drezdeńskim Augusta II i III. I to chyba jedyna wspólna cecha. Choć uznawani są za kompozytorów baroku to różnice między nimi są ogromne. Choć ponoć się przyjaźnili. Bach - mistrz kontrapunktu, muzyki religijnej, który nigdy nie napisał opery, a Hasse - wręcz przeciwnie - był twórcą operowym i to jednym z największych wówczas. Połączenie ich „muzyk” wydaje się zatem zabiegiem ciekawym. I tak też jest. Wykorzystanie fragmentów kantat obu kompozytorów i kilku utworów instrumentalnych Bacha znakomicie pokazuje, jak styl włoski był im bliski. Choć Bach nie był we Włoszech, a Hasse wręcz przeciwnie - święcił tam operowe triumfy. Konfrontacja znakomita w interesującym wykonaniu.

Bach Collegium Japan was first noticed internationally for undertaking the huge project of recording the complete church cantatas of J. S. Bach. Although the ensemble’s discography consists of predominately vocal works, the participating instrumentalists have attracted acclaim ever since the outset. On the present offering, it is Bach’s two great sets of orchestral works that form the programme and the choir of the BCJ is silent. Bach Collegium Japan and Masaaki Suzuki first recorded the Brandenburg Concertos in 2000, but now return to these great works. The new recording took place in the recently completed MUZA Kawasaki Hall, a venue that is highly suitable to an approach focussing on the chamber music qualities of this music. In four of the concertos Masaaki Suzuki has chosen to replace the traditional cello with the violoncello da spalla – a smaller instrument played horizontally on the shoulder or held against the breast. The instrument has already featured in the BCJ Cantata series, and opens for new possibilities in timbre, for instance in Concerto No. 6, where the violoncello da spalla blends particularly well with the two solo violas and the viola da gambas. Making a new recording also provided the opportunity to record these in many ways multidimensional works in 5.0 Surround Sound, releasing them as hybrid SACDs. This is also the format of the included recordings of the Orchestral Suites, originally released in 2005 to great and universal acclaim. The German website klassik.com called the 2-CD set ‘incredibly perfect Bach!’ and named it one of the reference recordings of these oft-recorded works, while the Financial Times (UK) listed it as one of the outstanding classical discs of 2005, remarking that "Suzuki's traversal of the Bach orchestral suites combine scholarship and style without compromising the music's expressiveness". In the Brandenburg Concertos and the Suites, Bach explored an Italian and a French genre respectively, and in his inimitable way transcended the boundaries of both. This attractive box at a very advantageous price combines both sets performed by one of the leading Baroque ensembles in high fidelity recordings – not to be missed!

Skid Row, amerykański zespół zaliczany do gatunków muzycznych hard rock i heavy metal, został założony został w 1986 roku w Toms River, w stanie New Jersey, przez byłego gitarzystę Bon Jovi Dave’a "Snake’a" Sabo oraz Rachela Bolana (gitara basowa). W pierwszym składzie, oprócz założycieli, znaleźli się także: Sebastian Bach (śpiew), Scottie Hill (gitara) i Rob Affuso (perkusja). Do roku 2007 zespół Skid Row nagrał 6 pełnometrażowych albumów (LP), jedno EP, jedną kompilację najlepszych utworów oraz jeden album koncertowy. Do dziś jednak, za największe dokonanie Skid Row uznaje się dwie pierwsze płyty zespołu: "Skid Row" i "Slave To The Grind". Debiutancki album Skid Row "Skid Row" został wydany w 1989 roku. Okazał się wielkim sukcesem, stając się multi-platynową płytą, między innymi dzięki dwóm singlom: "18 and Life" i "I Remember You". Drugi album - "Slave To The Grind" zapewnił zespołowi bezprecedensowy sukces, debiutując na liście przebojów Billboard na pierwszym miejscu, co nigdy wcześniej nie zdarzyło się żadnemu zespołowi grającemu muzykę heavy-metalową. Album "Slave To The Grand" spotkał się z doskonałymi recenzjami krytyki i ostatecznie, podobnie jak debiutancki krążek, sprzedał się w tak dużej liczbie egzemplarzy, by stać się platynową płytą. Początek dekady lat 90. i narodziny ery muzyki grunge okazały się trudnym okresem dla zespołu Skid Row. Spora grupa fanów i pokrewnych muzycznie zespołów zaczęła stopniowo odchodzić w kierunku grup grających, nową, modną muzykę grunge. W tej sytuacji muzycy Skid Row podjęli decyzję o zawieszeniu działalności, po to by przeczekać trudny dla nich okres. Zespół wrócił na scenę z nowym albumem "Subhuman Race" w roku 1995, który jednak nie powtórzył już sukcesów wcześniejszych produkcji. Piętrzące się problemy i narastające spięcia w zespole spowodowały, że w 1996 roku wokalista Sebastian Bach zdecydował się na jego opuszczenie. Wraz z perkusistą grupy Smashing Pumpkins zaangażował się w projekt The Last Hard Men, który po roku działalności rozpadł się. Próby reaktywacji zespołu w składzie z Sebastianem Bachem przy okazji wydawania w 1998 płyty "Forty Seasons" nie powiodły się. Bach zdecydował się na solową karierę, nagrywając własne albumy, a także występując w musicalach, na Broadwayu. W międzyczasie, pozostali członkowie Skid Row podjęli decyzję o reaktywacji zespołu. W roku 2000 wznowili działalność z nowym wokalistą - Johnnym Solingerem. Za wyjątkiem perkusistów, reszta składu Skid Row przez wszystkie lata pozostawała niezmienna. W roku 2003 zespół nagrał nowy album "Thickskin", a trzy lata później, w roku 2006 płytę "Revolutions Per Minute".

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach był drugim i najsławniejszym synem wielkiego Jana Sebastiana Bacha. Jego muzyka była komponowana w okresie przejścia od baroku do klasycyzmu. W XVIII wieku koncerty na wiolonczelę były zupełnie nowym gatunkiem muzycznym. Wraz z Boccherinim i Haydnem, C.P.E. Bach był jednym z najbardziej znanych kompozytorów piszących te utwory.
