Primarily a renowned music critic and conductor and composer of ballets, Constant Lambert wrote very few choral works. Summer’s Last Will and Testament is an extensive cantata of stylistic diversity and emotional power. Completed in 1935, this setting of writings by the poet Thomas Nashe has strong claims to being one of its composer’s finest works. Despite attracting little attention at its premiere, Malcolm Arnold called it “one of the undiscovered treasures of the English choral repertoire”. Zespół został założony w 1967 roku przez Teda Oberga. Stały rdzeń składał się z Teda Oberga ( gitara ), Johna Lagranda ( harmonijka ustna ) i Nicko Christiansena (wokal, urodzony Dominicus Christiaan Jansen). Kierownikiem grupy była matka Teda, Françoise Oberg. Około 1970 roku Livin' Blues wraz z Cuby + Blizzards został zaliczony do absolutnej czołówki holenderskiego świata bluesowego. Livin 'Blues jest popularny w Polsce. Ich koncerty w Polsce w latach 70. w znaczącym stopniu przyczyniły się do spopularyzowania bluesa w naszym kraju, ich ówczesna popularność w Polsce osiągnęła poziom tak wysoki, że w pewnym momencie ich polski fanklub liczył więcej członków niż holenderski, a w naszym kraju ukazały się ich dwie płyty analogowe. It was the subject of Paisiello’s opera L’amor contrastato or La bella Molinara (1788) which made its triumphant progress through Germany under the title Die schöne Müllerin. In 1795 the young Beethoven wrote two sets of piano variations based on arias (including the celebrated ‘Nel cor più non mi sento’) from this work. Paisiello’s opera was performed in Vienna in 1822 when Schubert may well have seen it. Goethe had also written a sequence of poems entitled Edelknabe und Müllerin (‘The young lord and the miller-maid’) on this theme but he was not the only poet to write of romance at the mill; Brentano had used this subject, as had Justinus Kerner. The famous anthology of folk poetry Des Knaben Wunderhorn has an entire sequence devoted to millers and miller-maids. In his Jugendlieder (1810–1813) Friedrich Rückert has a poem which contains these four lines which should be compared to the opening of Am Feierabend (V)
