This disc marks the beginning of a new series, dedicated to the engaging, albeit neglected, orchestral works of the German-Swiss composer Joachim Raff. The survey starts with Symphony No. 2 and the orchestral preludes to four plays by Shakespeare: The Tempest, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and Othello, all idiomatically performed by the Orchestre de la Suisse romande, conducted by its new Artistic and Music Director, Neeme Järvi.

Bas Sheva interpretuje utwory Lesa Baxtera (Music from "The Passions" - composed, conducted by Les Baxter and "Soul Of A People" - conducted by Harold Mooney). Bas Sheva (25 lipca 1925 r. - 11 lutego 1960 r.), pseudonim artystyczny Bernice Kanefsky, była żydowsko-amerykańską piosenkarką, w latach 50. XX wieku. Chociaż zaczęła śpiewać żydowską muzykę tradycyjną i kantarcką, jej kariera rozgałęziła się także w muzyce popularnej w 1953 r. Bas Sheva została zaangażowana przez lidera zespołu, Hala Mooneya, jako główną wokalistę albumu "Soul Of A People", zbioru tradycyjnych pieśni żydowskich wydawanych przez Capitol Records. Ten dysk dobrze się sprzedawał na żydowskim rynku, a występy Bas Shevy w tym znanym materiale znacznie przyczyniły się do jego sukcesu. W 1954 roku, Les Baxter, kompozytor i producent w Capitol Records, zaproponował jej rolę gwiazdy wokalnej w swoim projekcie "The Passions". Występ Bas Shevy na "The Passions" zaskakuje nawet 50 lat po nagraniu” krzyczy, lamentuje, płacze, wyje, chrząka, a nawet trochę pulsuje rytmem ciemnej, ziarnistej i złożonej muzyki Baxtera. Live recording of Rossini's opera performed at the Bregenz Festival in Austria in 2017. Transposing the tale of 'Moses in Egypt' to modern times, the production features vocalists Andrew Foster-Williams as Faraone, Clarissa Costanzo as Elcia and Mandy Fredrich as Amaltea, with Goran Juric joining the cast as Mosè. The Wiener Symphoniker is conducted by Enrique Mazzola with the Prague Philharmonic Choir led by Lukas Vasilek.

Strauss’s ‘Fantastic variations on a theme of knightly character’, as Don Quixote is subtitled, is one of the composer’s most popular tone poems, principally because of the beautifully drawn central characters of the Don (performed by a solo cellist) and Sancho Panza (viola). These roles are luxuriously cast in this new recording, being taken by Hyperion artists Alban Gerhardt and Lawrence Power. The merry tale of Till Eulenspiegel completes this release.The Gürzenich-Orchester Köln, the very orchestra which gave the premieres of both works in the 1890s, is conducted by Markus Stenz, who has held the position of Principal Conductor since 2003. He visited China with the orchestra in early 2008 and conducted their first ever BBC Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in August 2008. In September 2010 he returned to China with the Gürzenich Orchestra and the Opera of Cologne to conduct the first ever production of Wagner’s ‘Ring’ in Shanghai. Among other posts he is Chief Guest Conductor of the Hallé.
