Pochodzący z Włoch wybitny kompozytor Domenico Giuseppe Scarlatti, urodzony w 1685 roku w Neapolu, zmarł w 1757 roku w Madrycie. Artysta prócz komponowaniem zajmował się również grą na klawesynie oraz organach, tworzył w okresie baroku. Naukę pobierał u swojego ojca Alessandro Pietro Scarlattiego.  Album został wydany przez wytwórnię Chandos (CHAN 10988). On its first release as a double LP, this legendary 1980 recording was described as ‘a rousing sonic spectacular’ in the US audiophile magazine The Absolute Sound (TAS). Setting off on a sonic journey through Europe, Gregorio Paniagua and his legendary ensemble Atrium Musicæ de Madrid took the famous theme known as La Spagna, used widely by composers across Europe for several centuries, as their point of departure. In their quest to bring to life these old scores, they used a huge range of instruments, from clavicytherium (a ‘vertical harpsichord’) to a simple plastic cup, and the vivid performances and no less vivid recording enchanted both early music fans and audiophiles. An ample selection from the original programme was later made available on CD, but due to technical advances the present disc is the first re-edition of the entire original programme, with Hans Kotter’s Spaniol Kochesberger available to those who play back the disc on an SACDplayer. For this Hybrid SACD – playable also on CD players – the recording has been transferred directly from the original analogue master tapes to high resolution DSD format: a leap back in time made possible by the latest technique.

Utwory: Piano Concerto No 1 in B flat minor Op 1 (original version)Piano Concerto No 2 in D minor Op 23 Welcome to a genuinely outstanding disc in the Romantic Piano Concerto series. Sometimes the works found along the unfrequented byways of the Romantic piano tradition can exhibit no more than surface brilliance, but that cannot be said of these two splendid concertos by Stenhammar, recorded for the first time together on one CD. The original orchestration of Stenhammar’s Piano Concerto No 1 is recorded here: a version which was long thought lost when the publishers were bombed during the second world war – a copy of the original was discovered in the Library of Congress in 1983. The twenty-two year old’s Opus 1 is a masterpiece, majestic and virtuosic at its opening; bringing the listener into a world of Nordic mystery at the start of the third movement; the finale ending with music of sad, reflective sweetness. The second concerto is a distinctly different work, with an novel, some have said ‘improvised’, structure, and a sense of tension between soloist and orchestra which is only resolved in the glorious virtuosic finale. Hyperion is delighted to present the distinguished musician Andrew Manze in his new incarnation as a conductor. Directing the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, he is truly a force to be reckoned with. Pianist Seta Tanyel has featured on previous RPC recordings, always gaining the highest critical acclaim; however her magnificent playing on this new disc transcends her previous achievements.
