Ósmy studyjny album legendy hard rocka, grupy Whitesnake, utrzymany był w podobnej, bardzo amerykańskiej, wypolerowanej estetyce, co "1987", który okazał się być superstrzałem w sensie komercyjnym."Slip Of The Tongue" ukazał się w 1989 roku. Zameldował się w pierwszej 10. list po obu stronach Atlantyku, pokrywając się ostatecznie platyną w USA, a złotem w ojczyźnie Davida Coverdale'a. Z albumu wykrojono cztery single, z których najlepiej poradziły sobie nagrany ponownie numer sprzed lat, "Fool For Your Loving", oraz ballada "The Deeper The Love". Wszystkie partie gitarowe nagrał wirtuoz gitary Steve Vai, sekcję rytmiczną w studiu tworzyli Rudy Sarzo i Tommy Aldridge, zaś gościnnie w chórkach zaśpiewał Glenn Hughes, a na klawiszach zagrał Don Airey.
