Film music from the pen of Nino Rota, written for the countless masterpieces by the great Federico Fellini, but also in co-operation with Francis Ford Coppola, form the main components of this programme by the Austrian Salonists in the instrumentation of two violins, cello, double bass, clarinet/saxophone and piano. With a great deal of esprit, charm and enthralling virtuosity, the six versatile musicians pay homage to this genre, whose origins can be found in the (film) symphonic oeuvre of prominent German and Austrian émigrés in Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s. Besides Rota’s gems, you can also hear other unforgotten melodies by Alain Romans, Luiz Bonfá, Carlos Gardel, John Williams as well as Charlie Chaplin.
