Neon Highway Blues to 11 utworów, które są dowodem na to, że gitarzysta z jednej strony jest bardzo świadomy swojego stylu, a z drugiej nie boi się poszukiwać i wprowadzać świeżych elementów do swojej twórczości. Album wyprodukował sam Hoey w swoim domowym studiu w New Hampshire, a do wspólnego grania zaprosił Erica Galesa, Lance Lopeza, Josha Smitha oraz swojego 17-to letniego syna. "Chciałem , żeby na tym albumie było naprawdę dużo bluesa" - tłumaczy Gary Hoey. "Cały czas skupiałem się na bluesie i słuchałem klasycznych bluesmanów, wszystkich "Kingów": Alberta Kinga, Freddiego Kinga, BB Kinga. Oprócz togo na płycie znajdziecie wszystko, czego oczekują ode mnie moi fani, czyli sporo utworów instrumentalnych , rzeczy w stylu Led Zeppelin - ogólnie rzecz biorąc ten materiał jest bardzo zróżnicowany. Nagranie „Neon Highway Blues” nie było wcale takie łatwe. Blues sam w sobie nie jest łatwy, blues musi boleć. Nagrania trwały około półtora roku, ale dużo rzeczy zrobiliśmy podczas tras koncertowych. Kombinowałem całymi dniami, żeby wymyślić odpowiednie słowa, właściwe zagrywki, żeby wszystko pasowało, ale pojawiały momenty, kiedy nie byłem w stanie wymyślić niczego. To czyni ten album tak prawdziwym”.
