Dokładnie 21 maja 1979 roku zaczęła się droga brytyjskiej grupy Saxon do nieśmiertelnej sławy i statusu legendy klasycznego heavy metalu i nurtu New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. Tego dnia miał premierę imienny debiut kapeli od ponad 40 lat dowodzonej przez charyzmatycznego frontmana Biffa Byforda. Słychać było jeszcze na nim echa glam rocka i rocka progresywnego, lecz były też soczyste, metalowe riffy i świetne melodie, z których Saxon słynie. "Saxon" ukazuje się ponownie w wersji zremasterowanej na winylu. Do oryginalnej listy utworów dodano utwory demo z czasów, gdy kapela nazywała się jeszcze Son Of A Bitch, piosenki z sesji dla radia BBC i nagrania koncertowe z pierwszej edycji festiwalu Monsters Of Rock.
