„Duo op. 7” na skrzypce i wiolonczelę napisał Zoltán Koday (1882–1967) w roku 1914. Jest to muzyka mistrzowska. Oba instrumenty ukazują całą pełnię ekspresyjną i techniczną. Nic nie jest tu na pokaz, choć bogactwo pomysłów olśniewa. Osobliwe połączenie rapsodycznej melancholii i tanecznego wigoru czerpie Kodály z folkloru węgierskiego. Pamiętamy, jaki użytek potrafi ł z tych przeciwieństw uczynić Franz Liszt, który wyostrzał je do skrajności, by rzucić publiczność na kolana. Kodaly ujarzmia te sprzeczności bez uciekania się do wirtuozowskiej demagogii: wpisuje je w formy niedogmatycznie klasyczne, jest w swych erupcjach kaligrafi czny i opanowany, choć przecież żar rozpala tę muzykę do białości. Jej język jest konglomeratem ludowych modalizmów i tonalności rozszerzonej aż poza granicę rozpadu. Secesyjna giętkość splata się z impresjonistyczną kolorystyką i witalistyczną motoryką.Miklós Rozsa (1907–1995) znany jest przede wszystkim ze swej muzyki filmowej, za którą otrzymał trzy Oskary. Ale jego droga do Hollywood była kręta i wiodła, by tak rzec, przez szczyty muzyki klasycznej. Muzyka fascynowała Rózsę od dziecka. Mając lat osiem, Rozsa występował publicznie jako skrzypek i próbował sił w kompozycji. Później podjął studia w Budapeszcie, ale nie znalazł tam dla siebie miejsca. Z usposobienia był kosmopolitą, tymczasem muzyczną atmosferę stolicy Węgier – zarówno frakcji konserwatywnej, jak i modernistycznej (o wiele mu bliższej) – przenikały uczucia patriotyczne.            Marcin Trzęsiok
