Gitarzysta Dan Kaufman zetknął się z wierszami Paula Celana w 1997 roku. Mniej więcej wtedy, kiedy zakładał zespół Barbez (znajdziemy w nim m.in. muzyków Air, Antony & The Johnsons czy Balkan Beat Box), bez którego trudno wyobrazić dziś sobie nowojorską scenę multi-kulti. Do nagrania albumu poświęconego jednemu z największych poetów XX wieku grupę Kaufmana namówił John Zorn, król nowojorskiej awangardy, szef wytwórni Tzadik. A także wielki admirator twórczości niemieckojęzycznego Żyda z Bukowiny. Barbez poruszająco odmalowuje - zabarwioną rozpaczą, cierpieniem, lękiem - tajemniczość liryki Celana. Uderza kontrast między maszynowymi recytacjami szkockiej poetki Fiony Templeton a zawodzeniem wzmocnionej reprezentacji instrumentów rzewno-poetyckich: skrzypiec, wiolonczeli, thereminu i klarnetu. Żydowskiego ducha przywołują delikatne gitary (akustyczna, elektryczna, hawajska) lidera. Dalsze plany tworzą basy, marimba, wibrafon. Kotły budują podniosłą atmosferę w kończącym album „Sky Beetle” napisanym niedługo przed samobójczym skokiem Celana do Sekwany.
