The Doors na pewno nie są zespołem, który można zdefiniować i zaszufladkować, słuchając tylko jednej płyty. Album "Purple Rain", soundtrack do tak samo zatytułowanego filmu, w którym Prince zagrał, był pierwszym amerykańskim numerem jeden artysty na liście "Billboardu". Ukazał się w 1984 roku, a Książę nagrał piosenki z towarzyszącym mu wtedy zespołem The Revolution. Szóste studyjne wydawnictwo Prince'a w USA sprzedało się w ponad 13 mln egzemplarzy, co dało mu status diamentowej płyty. Na świecie kupiono ponad 22 mln kopii dzieła. Płyta zdobyła dwie nagrody Grammy, w tym za najlepszy soundtrack, a także Oscara za najlepszą oryginalną piosenkę do filmu. Wydanie deluxe zawiera pochodzący z 2015 roku tak zwany Paisley Park Remaster. Prince zdążył jeszcze nadzorować proces osobiście.
