Pod koniec wakacji 1978 roku, Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs, Simon Kirke i Boz Burrell spędzili kilka tygodni w studiu Ridge Farm w Surrey, nagrywając materiał na "Desolation Angels". Tytuł zaczerpnięto z powieści Jacka Kerouaca, a premiera albumu odbyła się w marcu 1979 roku. Wydawnictwo promowały single "Rock ’n’ Roll Fantasy" i "Gone, Gone, Gone", a w zestawie znalazły się również uwielbiane przez fanów numery "Evil Wind" oraz "Rhythm Machine". Bad Company świętują 40-lecie albumu z nową wersją, poszerzoną o 19 niepublikowanych piosenek pochodzących z sesji nagraniowej "Desolation Angels". Materiał niedawno zremasterowano z oryginalnych taśm na potrzeby wydawnictwa "The Swan Song Years 1974-1982", które ukazało się latem 2019. Zremasterowane utwory wypełniły również nowe, jubileuszowe dzieło. Na drugi krążek jubileuszowego wznowienia "Desolation Angels: 40th Anniversary Edition" trafiły nieopublikowane wersje 7 utworów z płyty, w tym alternatywne nagrania "Rock ’n’ Roll Fantasy", "Early In The Morning" i "She Brings Me Love", a także wersja "Oh, Atlanta" zagrana w wolniejszym tempie i z użyciem klawiszy Fender Rhodes. Poza alternatywnymi wersjami, na wydawnictwie znalazły się również dwa odrzuty z sesji. Pierwszy to numer "Smokin’ 45", w innej wersji niż ta znana z kompilacji "The ‘Original’ Bad Co.
