W marcu 2010 roku Rolando Villazon powrócił do studia by nagrać kolekcję „klasycznych” meksykańskich piosenek. Tym razem tenor sięgnął po standardy muzyki latynoamerykańskiej: Granada, Noche de Ronda, Bésame mucho, Perfidia, Cielito lindo, México lindo e querido, Cucurrucucú paloma i Solamente una vez. Utwory zostały na nowo zaaranżowane na zespół kameralny przez znanego i cenionego producenta Gonzalo Graua.Album związany jest z dwiema ważnymi meksykańskimi rocznicami: setną rocznicą rewolucji i dwusetną odzyskania niepodległości.17 czerwca Rolando Villazon wystąpił z tym repertuarem w swoim rodzinnym mieście – Mexico City. Towarzyszyli mu Bolívar Soloists. Dzień wcześniej Ministerstwo Kultury i Sztuki Meksyku uhonorowało artystę mianem „Ambasadora Kultury”. „Jestem dumny i szczęśliwy” - powiedział na konferencji prasowej w Mexico City - „mogąc śpiewać muzykę tak bliską memu sercu. To piosenki, które znam od dzieciństwa. Gdy je śpiewam, to tak jakby śpiewał je ze mną cały Meksyk!”Poprzednia płyta Rolando Villazona nagrana dla Deutsche Grammophon i zawierająca arie Haendla dostała się w Niemczech na listy sprzedaży płyt popowych, zaś wydany w Wielkiej Brytanii album „Tenor” w ciągu pierwszych trzech miesięcy sprzedał się w nakładzie ponad 65 000 egzemplarzy.W listopadzie „Ambasador Kultury Meksyku” odbędzie tournee z Bolívar Soloists po Europie.
