At the time, around 1976, when Arvo Pärt's oeuvre was about to be reborn in his newfound tintinnabular style, the enthusiasm mustered by the world of ancient music which was opening up around him in his native Estonia was to have, in his own words, “the effect of a midwife on my new music%22. The present release by ATMA is unique in that it rekindles that seminal atmosphere in performances of these stunning works--foremost among which the strikingly beautiful Stabat Mater--entirely on early instruments and at the Baroque pitch of A = 415 Hz. The profound voices of the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal choir and the Franz Joseph String Quartet also deliver two visions of Pärt's famous setting of the Christian Creed, Summa, while the Quartet alone is heard in Fratres (originally composed for a string ensemble on early instruments) and the haunting miniature Psalom. Finally, star countertenor Daniel Taylor sings the telling ‘motet' Es sang vor langen Jahren, on words by the German Romantic poet C.M. von Brentano.
On previous discs, Christian Poltéra has combined concertos with chamber works by composers such as Frank Martin and Arthur Honegger. The recipe proved highly successful, resulting in more rounded portraits of each composer, as well as of the performer himself: while Poltéra’s performance of Martin’s Cello Concerto was described in Gramophone as having ‘an inspirational intensity to compare with the celebrated Du Pré/Barbirolli recording of the Elgar Concerto’, the reviewer in Fanfare praised him for ‘playing with the kind of semi-arrogant, swashbuckling carefree attitude that suits Honnegger to a tee’. As he now proceeds to Samuel Barber – some twenty years younger than both Martin and Honegger – Poltéra opens his programme with the Cello Concerto, tailored especially for the Georgian-born cellist Raya Garbousova in 1945. The 25-minute long work is one of only three concertos by Barber, and is remarkable for the way in which he balances out the natural lyric expressiveness of his earlier music with a more urgent, acerbic style, highly rhythmic and intense. That lyricism and expressivity is of course most famously heard in the enormously popular Adagio for strings, which closes the disc in a performance by the strings of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra under Andrew Litton. But before that, Christian Poltéra and his regular chamber-music partner Kathryn Stott gives a performance of the Sonata for Cello and Piano, composed while Barber was still a student, but brilliantly written for the two instruments.

Twórcą Low Roar jest charyzmatyczny Ryan Karazija - urodzony w Kalifornii singer – songwriter, w którego żyłach płynie wybuchowa mieszanka krwi meksykańskiej i litewskiej. Ryan jest blisko związany z Polską, ma tu wielu przyjaciół, co znalazło odzwierciedlenie w tytułach takich piosenek z nowego albumu jak „Gosia” czy „Poznań”. Utalentowany muzyk, niespokojny duch, pełen pasji obieżyświat - niezwykła osobowość Ryana znajduje odbicie w jego znakomitej twórczości. W 2010 Karazija przeprowadził się z rodzimych Stanów do Reykjaviku, gdzie nagrał swój debiutancki krążek „Low Roar”. Płyta przyniosła mu rozgłos na świecie i zaproszenia na największe festiwale: Eurosonic, The Great Escape czy ATP.Ryan nawiązał też współpracę z legendarnym japońskim twórcą gier video Hideo Kojimą - muzyka Amerykanina trafiła do kultowej gry „Death Stranding” (z udziałem Normana Reedusa, Madsa Mikkelsena i w reżyserii Guillermo del Toro). Album „Low Roar” zyskał miliony odsłuchań w serwisie youtube, zaś recenzenci chwalili płytę porównując poetykę Low Roar do piosenek Radiohead, Sigur Ros czy Bon Iver. Ryan po premierze znów ruszył w drogę – od Meksyku przez Skandynawię po Polskę, gdzie spędza parę miesięcy w roku. Tu zagrał też wyprzedaną mini–trasę koncertową oraz wystąpił na poznańskim festiwalu „Malta” i białostockim „Halfway”. Szczęśliwie ten romantyczny wagabunda znalazł również czas, by nagrać kolejny świetny album. Płyta „Once In A Long Long While…” powstawała w studio w Walii z udziałem bliskiego przyjaciela Ryan’a - Mike’a Lindsaya (Tunng) i pod okiem uznanego producenta Andrew Schepsa (m.in. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Adele, Hozier). Gościnnie na krążku słychać też piękny wokal islandzkiej wokalistki Jófríður Ákadóttir (JFDR, Pascal Pinon), która śpiewa w singlowym utworze „Bones”. „Once In A Long…” to płyta prosta, szczera i pełna emocji: „Nie myślałem zbyt długo o tym, jaki album chcę nagrać. Po prostu musiałem wyrzucić z siebie te piosenki. W ten sposób na bieżąco dokumentowałem swoje życie” – mówi Ryan. W czerwcu nad Wisłą zagra trzy koncerty: 8.06 w Poznaniu (Spot), 9.06 w Warszawie (Niebo) oraz 10.06 podczas festiwalu Seazone w Sopocie.
