Paul Weller, jedna z największych legend brytyjskiego rocka, współtwórca zespołów The Jam i Style Council oraz od lat ceniony artysta solowy. "True Meanings" to jego czternasty studyjny materiał. Jak zapewnia artysta, "True Meanings" to płyta wyjątkowa w jego ogromnym już dorobku. Na żadnej wcześniejszej nie było tyle tak zróżnicowanych emocjonalnie, perfekcyjnie dopracowanych orkiestracji. Doskonale pasują do głosu Petera i szczerości wyśpiewywanego przekazu, z którym wielu może się identyfikować. Choć skończył w maju 2018 roku 60 lat, Paul nie przestaje poszukiwać i wciąż realizuje swoje marzenia. Jednym z tych właśnie zrealizowanych jest płyta "True Meanings". Nigdy wcześniej Weller nie współpracował z tyloma gośćmi przy jednym albumie. Wśród nich są Rod Argent z The Zombies (organy Hammonda w "The Soul Searchers", fortepian i Mellotron w "White Horses"), folkowe legendy Martin Carthy i Danny Thompson (gitara i kontrabas w "Come Along"), Little Barrie (solo gitarowe w "Old Castles"), Lucy Rose (chórki w "Books"). Słychać na płycie także Noela Gallaghera. Paul poprosił też o napisanie tekstów do czterech piosenek. Connor O'Brien z Villagers jest autorem tekstu do "The Soul Searchers". Słowa do "Bowie", "Wishing Well" i "White Horses" to dzieło Erlanda Coopera z Erland & The Carnival. Produkcją większości "True Meanings" zajął się Paul Weller. Wyjątkami są "The Soul Searchers" (Paul i Conor O'Brien) oraz "Movin On" (Weller i White Label). Całość podkładów nagrano w zaledwie trzy tygodnie w należącym do Paula Black Barn Studio. Później dodano do nich orkiestracje.
