Maurizio Pollini kontynuuje swoją chronologiczną podróż przez późne dzieła polskiego kompozytora. „Obowiązkowy album dla wszystkich wielbicieli Chopina i Polliniego” ResMusica - recenzja „Chopin: Late Works” Polliniego, op. 59-64 „Ten wspaniale nagrany album otwiera wykwintne wykonanie Barkaroli (Chopin w najlepszym wydaniu), następnie przechodząc do Mazurków op. 59, z których As-dur brzmi szczególnie nostalgicznie, z perfekcyjnie ukształtowaną melodią, a fis-moll ogniście z zawiłymi, acz wyraźnymi ozdobnikami” Classical Source - recenzja „Chopin: Late Works” Polliniego, op. 59-64.

'A new talent has appeared in our midst, a genuine, thoroughly original, thoroughly Russian talent … He is bright and unaffected, he has boldness and power. Cui, Borodin and my humble self are delighted with him … As for his own scribblings, well, you will judge for yourself. Korsakov has been holding forth on them quite a lot.' So wrote Mussorgsky of the young Liadov. And yet his works have remained little known. A Musical Snuffbox will be familiar to most listeners, but the majority of Liadov's canon has fallen into obscurity, not least because the composer dedicated his life to indolence and seems to have been utterly without ambition either for himself or for his music. The two major piano works are the 'Glinka' variations and the 'Polish' variations; as for the rest of his output, it is of miniatures as finely crafted as they are few in number.'Exquisite piano pieces. Yet another winner by a pianist who is proving a worthy champion of Late Romantic Russian repertoire' (The Scotsman) 'Scarcely anybody outside Russia looks at them these days, but, as Stephen Coombs eloquently establishes on this disc, they are gems' (The Daily Telegraph) 'A sparkling collection of gems honed to perfection by a fine craftsman' (Classic CD)

Gwiazda Mystic Festival, fińska grupa Nightwish, prezentuje nowy album! In March 1783, the readers of Cramer’s Magazin der Musik could read about a certain ‘Louis van Betthoven’, a ‘boy … of most promising talent’, whose first published work was being advertised as 'nine variations for the pianoforte, written by him on a march, engraved at Mannheim.’ The piece in question was the Dressler Variations, WoO 63, and it marked not only the beginning of an illustrious career, but also the start of Ludwig van Beethoven's lifelong involvement with variation form, culminating almost forty years later in the monumental Diabelli Variations for solo piano, and – in another field – the third movement of his Ninth symphony. In comparison, WoO 63 and the other works included here are certainly less heavy-weight, even if the so-called Venni Amore Variations, WoO 65, has a duration of more than 20 minutes, and in spite of its early date (1790/91) points forward to a much later period in Beethoven's œuvre. The final set of variations on the disc, the Six variations on Nel cor più non mi sento, WoO 70 were composed in 1795, around the same time as the three piano sonatas Op.2. In this series, Ronald Brautigam has previously recorded early sonatas and sonatinas from the same period as the present works, a disc described by the reviewer on German web site Klassik Heute as ‘providing a touching illustration of those times when the great Beethoven was simply young Ludwig’ through playing which is ‘simultaneously committed to the utmost purity of style and imbued with an immense musical exuberance’. As on the previous instalment in the series, Brautigam has chosen to perform these early variations on a fortepiano after a Walter & Sohn instrument from c.1805.

Dan Laurin has made a name for himself as an intrepid musician who never hesitates to venture into uncharted territory, as testified by his numerous recordings of contemporary recorder works, as well as by his monumental achievement in recording the complete (10 hours!) 17th century Der Fluyten Lust-hof by Jacob van Eyck. As he now turns to one of the most recorded works in Western music, his approach is as fresh and original as ever. With the aid of the highly praised Polish ensemble Arte dei Suonatori, Laurin gives us Vivaldi’s humming insects, pounding summer rain and drunken village revels in a way we’ve never before heard them. The sweltering heat of summer and the excitement of the hunt – in which the recorder takes the part of the hunted animal – are almost tangible in a recording of unusual directness, whether experienced in the Surround or stereo versions. Laurin and Arte dei Suonatori have met before on disc, with electrifying result, performing works by Telemann (BIS-CD-1185) in a manner that one critic found almost dangerously addictive. Here the team reunites in a programme in which The Seasons is complemented by three other Vivaldi concertos, including the recorder concerto above all others: Concerto in C minor, RV 441. A previous recording of this work by Dan Laurin was hailed by the critic in Fono Forum with the following words: ‘Laurin’s tremendous technique transcends the perceived limitations of the recorder, and lets the music speak much more eloquently than we have been accustomed to’ – a description which is as relevant to the present disc.

This disc of popular works by Emmanuel Chabrier marks the beginning of a new series of French repertoire, performed by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under its newly appointed Artistic Director, Neeme Järvi. Also on this disc is the Joyeuse marche, one of Chabrier’s most popular works, and the Bourrée fantasque, based on a dance from the Auvergne region in France where the composer had spent his childhood.
