Ray Davies jest ikoną muzyki rockowej. Uważany za jednego najwybitniejszych autorów piosenek swojego pokolenia. Od samego początku związany z The Kinks, którym poświęcił cały swój czas. Jest autorem m. in. „You Really Got Me” (wykonywane później przez Van Halen i Briana Eno uważane jest za pierwsze nagranie, które dało początek hardrockowi), “All Day And All Of The Night”, “You Really Got Me”, “Lola”, “Set Me Free”, “Victoria”, “Ape Man”, oraz głównym pomysłodawcą płyt: “The Kinks Are The Green Preservation Society”, “Arthur”, “Lola Versus Powerman And The Money Go Round”.Na najnowszej płycie zebrał swoje największe przeboje i wykonał je w nowych wersjach z zaproszonymi gośćmi. Na „See My Friends” pojawiają się między innymi Bruce Springsteen („Better Things”), Metallica („You Really Got Me”), Bon Jovi („Celluloid Heores”), Paloma Faith („Lola”), Frank Black (“This Is Where I Belong”) i Amy Macdonald (“Dead End Street”).“Pomysł na płytę zrodził się właściwie przez przypadek. Zaczęło się latem ubiegłego roku od nagrania z Aleksem Chiltonem nowej wersji „Till The End Of A Day”. Przy opracowaniu niektórych utworów musiałem wziąć pod uwagę styl innych wykonawców, inaczej album byłby niespójny.
