Constantin Silvestri urodził się w Bukareszcie w Rumunii w 1913 roku. Już jako sześciolatek grał na fortepianie I orhanach wykazując znaczne zdolności także w dziedzinie improwizacji. Jako nastolatek podejmował już pierwsze próby jako dyrygent, a swój debiut miał w  1930 roku występując z Orkiestrą Symfoniczną Radia w Bukareszcie. Program koncertu zawierał Święto Wiosny Strawińskiego oraz kompozycję własną Silvestriego.Następnie jego udziałem stał się większy jeszcze sukces po koncercie, w którym prowadził Narodową Orkiestrę Radiową Rumunii. Wówczas zdecydował sie poświęcić swoje życie dyrygenturze. ! 1935 r. rozpoczął współpracę z Rumuńską Operą Narodową, dyrygował także przez sześć lat Orkiestrą Filharmonii w Bukareszcie. W 1948 r. zaczął także karierę pedagogiczną wykładając w konserwatorium, w którym załączył wydział dyrygentury. Koncertując w Rumunii znalazł także czas, aby występować gościnnie w ZSRR, Czechosłowackii oraz na Węgrzech. W 1957 roku miał miejsce jego debiut w Wielkiej Brytanii z London Philharmonic Orchestra w Royal Albert Hall, zaczął również współpracę z EMI, nagrywając liczne płyty. W Londynie, Paryżu i Wiedniu. Zanim opuścił swój rodzinny kraj jego udziałem stał się kolejny wielki sukces na ojczystej ziemi – premiera opery “Edyp” Enesco w 1958 r.Początkowo zamieszkał w Paryżu w 1959 roku, następnie w Anglii, gdzie zaoferowano mu posadę Głównego Dyrygenta w Boutnemouth Symphony Orchestra.. Silvestri zbudował prestiż tego zespołu i wyniósł go do rangi międzynarodowej.W 1967 roku przyjął brytyjskie obywatelstwo,. Jego karierę przerwała jednak przedwcześnie choroba. Silvestri zmarł w 1968 roku na raka mając zaledwie 55 lat.Niezwykła kolekcja prezentuje komplet nagrań, których Constantin Silvestri dokonał dla EMI.

Praga zawsze była uważana za jedno z najpiękniejszych miast na świecie. Nazwa „Cor Europae” (Serce Europy) prawdopodobnie pochodzi z wczesnej historii kraju z XIII wieku, kiedy Królestwo Czech rozciągało się od Bałtyku po Morze Śródziemne. Był to okres wielkiego dobrobytu, szczególnie za czasów króla Wacława II Przemyślida, którego kulminacją było panowanie Karola IV, który był zarówno królem Czech, jak i cesarzem rzymskim. Pomimo faktu, że Czechy były centrum Europy i korzystały z obecności wielu uczonych (szczególnie po założeniu uniwersytetu w 1348 r.), lokalna kultura zachowała tam również starszą tradycję.  Można to zobaczyć w pięknym repertuarze okresu adwentowego i świątecznego, który przetrwał w rękopisach przechowywanych w katedrze w Pradze i opactwie benedyktynów na Zamku Praskim. Źródła te pozwalają zrekonstruować liturgię obchodzonego tam święta Narodzenia Pańskiego, z organami i tropami w tradycji muzyki XII wieku, w czasach, gdy nowy styl Ars Nova panował w Europie. I właśnie tą muzykę wykonuje na płycie zespół Tiburtina.

Hyperion’s record of the month for May brings us the monumental Monteverdi Vespers—a perennial bastion of the choral repertory, and the fifth release in The King’s Consort’s acclaimed series: ‘The definitive representation of Monteverdi on disc’ (BBC Music Magazine).In 1610, disgruntled with his lot as choirmaster to the Duke of Mantua, Monteverdi set about compiling what was to become one of the most significant choral publications in history. At its heart lies the Vespers—a blistering array of virtuosic solo movements and magisterial choruses to texts from which can be assembled music suitable for any Solemn Vespers, whatever the forces available. Many movements offer abridged versions and a complete alternative Magnificat is provided. This performance is of the full work in all its opulent glory, with the addition of the simplified Magnificat and the Missa In illo tempore—a setting of the Mass without which no liturgical publication of the time could have been complete.And what a recording this turns out to be. As the cornerstone of The King’s Consort’s twenty-fifth anniversary concert series, the Vespers scored a knockout performance at The Sage Gateshead in February this year. Over the following weekend Robert King led the same jubilant forces in the creation of this recording, the fruit of some two-and-a-half decades of research and performance—the glorious result being a rendition cut free from transient artifice and embued with a degree of fully formed confidence that can only spring ‘from the heart’.A dazzling array of soloists join King—his choir and orchestra on top form—in presenting this new recording of a true masterpiece to the world: a project made possible by the generosity of all the many hundreds of people who donated to Hyperion’s appeal for recording funds in 2005.
