Zremasterowane (24 BIT Digitally Remastered) wydawnictwo zawiera 2 kompletne albumy: "The Cats" oraz "Mating Call". It was during an extended visit to Mannheim in 1777 that Mozart became friendly with the oboist Friedrich Ramm, a member of the famous Mannheim orchestra which was widely acknowledged as the finest in Europe (‘an army of generals’ as Charles Burney remarked). Earlier the same year Mozart had composed his Oboe Concerto, and impressed by Ramm’s ability, he now played the work through to him on the piano. Although Mozart had written it for another player, Ramm was to make it his own: by 14 February 1778 he had performed it no less than five times – ‘a great sensation…Ramm’s cheval de bataille’ as Mozart described it. Mozart later found occasion to compose especially for Ramm – the Oboe Quartet was written as a celebration of his virtuosity, and significantly challenged the boundaries of the possible on the contemporary oboe. As principal oboist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and an international soloist in his own right, Alexei Ogrintchouk may well be said to be the Friedrich Ramm of our day – also on BIS, his performances of J.S. Bach’s oboe concertos was judged to be ‘as astonishing as it is successful’ on the web site klassik-heute.de, with a sound described as ‘generous, rounded, warm and velvety’ in Classica. He here performs these pillars of the oboe repertoire with the support of the renowned Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra in the concerto and in the company of three highly respected young string players in the quartet. To round off the programme Alexei has called in his father, the pianist Leonid Ogrintchouk, and together the two perform a transcription of the Violin Sonata in B flat major, K 378, composed during the same period as the two other works on this disc.

Winner of one Juno and three Prix Opus from Conseil québécois de la musique, notably “performer of the year” in 2010, Ensemble Caprice is renowned for its innovative interpretations of baroque music. The New York Times even called it “a group that encourages listeners to rehear the world.” This new recording of the Ensemble combines Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous Brandenburg Concertos, composed between 1712 and 1721D , with a few preludes and one fugue by mitri Shostakovich, as arranged by music director Matthias Maute. He explains the daring juxtaposition between the two composers: “When the Russian composer adjudicated at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig in 1950, he was deeply impressed by Bach’s two collections of the Welltempered Clavier. Upon returning to Moscow, Shostakovich followed Bach’s example and composed his own cycle of preludes and fugues in all 24 keys. Even though he holds firmly to his own musical language with its tonal liberties, his use of baroque elements provides a constant source of surprise. We have selected and orchestrated one prelude by Shostakovich for each of the Brandenburg Concertos. The First Brandenburg Concerto, however, is preceded instead by a fugue, the wonderful fugue op. 87 No. 7. As a touch of post‐modern thought we have reserved the prelude composed for this fugue to serve as a postlude at the end of the cycle of Brandenburg Concertos. This short but utterly beautiful and contemplative piece eems to be Shostakovich’s final personal comment on Bach’s overwhelming music, as seen from a contemporary point of view.” Under the artistic direction of Matthias Maute and Sophie Larivière, Ensemble Caprice is renowned for its innovative interpretations of baroque music since 20 years. It has received national and international acclaim for its performances of early music. Ensemble Caprice’s most recent albums on the Analekta label have all been highly acclaimed: Gloria! Vivaldi’s Angels won Canada’s prestigious 2009 JUNO award, Telemann and the Gypsies was recommended by Gramophone, Vivaldi and the Baroque GG ypsies had two nominations in 2009 for Echo Klassik awards in ermany. The Ensemble is also the winner of the Audience Appreciation Prize (2008‐2009) and Finalist (2009) of the Grand Prix de Montréal. Matthias Maute has achieved an international reputation as one of the finest recorder and baroque flute player of his generation, as a composer and as a director. Mr. Maute is also esteemed for his artistic direction of Ensemble Caprice, for whom he produces ingenious and fascinating programs.

On the penultimate disc in his series of the complete keyboard concertos by C.P.E. Bach, Miklós Spányi completes the set of six concertos (Sei Concerti, Wq 43/1-6) begun on Volume 17. Bach finished working on the set in 1771, but had already advertised its coming publication. In a bid to reach as many potential subscribers as possible, he marketed the works as ‘easy’, and also included optional parts for wind instruments: two horns in all the fast movements, replaced by flutes in the slow movements. Bach’s aim was to make the works appealing to both players and listeners, and the result is a set of highly attractive pieces, with approachable melodies and dance rhythms but also displaying a new freedom with regard to conventional concerto form. With the expert support of the Hungarian period band Concerto Armonico, Miklós Spányi performs the solo parts of Wq 43/5 and 43/6 on a harpsichord, a copy of an instrument from 1745. Inspired by the English harpsichords that were imported in great number to Northern Germany during Bach’s time, this instrument has been fitted with a so-called ‘swell device’, enabling the performer to achieve dynamic shadings and crescendo-diminuendo effects consistent with the instructions in Bach’s scores. Some seven years after the Sei Concerti, Bach composed the concertos in G major (Wq 44) and D major (Wq 45) – two works which, although composed in the same year, are strikingly different in character, evidence of Bach’s continuing desire to give each new work a distinctive identity. This has led Miklós Spányi to choose to perform the Wq 44 concerto on a fortepiano from 1798, by the English maker Broadwood, returning to the harpsichord for the final work on the disc

Our series of works by Richard Wagner, performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Neeme Järvi, continues with a disc of early symphonies, later marches, and the Overture to ‘Rienzi’. Early on in his career, Wagner composed two symphonies, both of which are included on this disc. The Symphony in C, which he wrote when he was just nineteen years old, is heavily influenced by Beethoven in its character, mood, and instrumentation. Written two years later, in 1834, the Symphony in E was left unfinished, Wagner completing only the first movement and thirty bars of the second. The completed version recorded here was prepared by the conductor Felix Mottl more than fifty years later at the request of Wagner’s widow, Cosima. The two marches on this disc are the composer’s most obvious contributions to the genre of pomp and circumstance. The Huldigungsmarsch was written in 1864 for King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The march-like rhythms and brassy colours complement sections in which the strings provide a continuously flowing movement, all leading to a jubilant conclusion. The Kaisermarsch (1871) was a commission from the publishing firm Peters, who requested from Wagner a heroic morale booster at a time when the German countries were at war with France. Having initially composed it for military band, Wagner soon rewrote it for symphony orchestra, the version recorded on this disc. The Overture to Rienzi, Wagner’s third completed opera (1838 – 40), incorporates the melody of Rienzi’s prayer at the start of Act V, which became the opera’s best-known aria, and ends with a dazzling military march

For the the new album touched the Calmus Ensemble chose songs about “love” from different centuries. There is Sting next to Henry Purcell and Michael Jackson beside Adriano Bachieri. The pieces are connected by interludes especially composed for this recording. The CD offers the opportunity to see the texts of the songs, which are also from different epochs, in a new light and new perspective. The longer you listen to this CD, the more you lose time and epochs. Everything becomes timeless.
